VEIL has been all over your social media feeds, with very good reason. Jonathan Janz is one of my favorite authors and he is also just such a kind spirit. Inspiring, genuine, supportive, and someone worthy of others respect, and admiration.

I just finished VEIL a couple days ago. I read it, and I also listened to the audiobook. Janz poured every ounce of himself into this story, and I believe, maybe a few ounces of everyone around him that he cares about. It's emotional, raw, and honest. Janz wants us to believe this is a sci-fi novel, or more accurately, a blend of horror and sci-fi, and it is, on the surface. I'll let the other reviews tell you the storyline. I'm going to tell you why you need to read it.

It's humans at their worst, and also at their best. It's the profound horror of realizing that there is nothing you can do but deal with the chaos the best you can and try to survive it. The aching honesty that comes with grief and dealing with it head on, in the face of those left behind.

It's about family, it's about love, and loss, and being able to face the ugliest parts of yourself and admitting when you were wrong. And deeper, but yet, much simpler than all of that, it's about what we would do for those we love. How far we would go to save them or to protect them. Janz dug deep for this one, and he makes it hurt.

VEIL. Go get it, if you haven't yet. It's relevant, especially today. It's necessary, and it will make you feel all the things that somehow humanity seems to be losing.
