More recents reads for you today. This week we go overseas with great reads by two fantastic authors, Gemma Amor and Ross Jeffery. I've read several books by both of these authors and have greatly enjoyed them all. The two reviewed below are no exception.
I hope you consider picking these up!
Enjoy!
Dear Laura
by Gemma Amor
Dear Laura is a deeply tragic story about obsession, fear, and the choices we make. Built around an unsettling and realistic scenario, it follows a young woman as she deals with the loss of a close friend and the aftermath it brings to her life. Soon, a more sinister side of the story reveals itself in the wake of the tragedy and Laura is forced to make decisions that will both haunt her and shape her life for years to come.
Gemma has a very unique voice that I have come to enjoy and capturing the feminine POV in her stories is something she does very well. All ranges of emotions are displayed here, which is only a testament to Gemma's own range and talent as an author. She makes you feel things that you may not expect.
I listened to this on Audible, and the narration was perfect for this twisted tale.

Beautiful Atrocities
by Ross Jeffery
Beautiful Atrocities is a most apt title for this collection from Ross Jeffery. I am a relatively new reader of Jeffery’s and so far, have not been disappointed. This collection contains 18 horrific tales, each one so beautifully written you almost don’t realize it is horror.
Ever heard the frog in the pot analogy? Essentially, if you place a frog in a pot of water, then slowly turn up the heat, it does not realize it is being cooked alive.
Jeffery applies that concept to this collection with scalpel-like precision. The writing is so beautiful, so artistically delivered that you do not comprehend the horror until it is right there in your face, screaming.
Well done, Mr. Jeffery. Well done.
5 stars.
