I’ve done several stories for the Horror Collection from Kevin Kennedy, but this one was for his Classical Monsters series, Werewolves. I took a different approach than I normally would for a story of this kind, choosing to tell an origin story for our main character rather than a full-blown gory action werewolf in the woods. I struggled with this piece for a few days before the direction felt right, but once it started to flow, I finished in a couple days. I was very happy with the final story.
It follows a young woman that is struggling to understand her recurring nightmares and childhood secrets. As her stress and concern builds, she decides a trip to her grandmother’s house is needed, hoping that maybe her grandmother can fill in the blanks. As the story unfolds, the secrets are revealed but is it too late for her and those closest to her?
I could see this one quite graphically in my head as I wrote it and maybe one day, some film director will think it would make a good movie. I think it might, but I’m biased.
