The Pulse Remains is a story that will stick with you long after reading despite its short length. Full of gut-wrenching emotion, the rage of ancestors long-past, and the sins of fathers long-dead, the story follows a newly freed slave woman and her son trying to survive in the days right after the Civil War.
A greedy landowner with less than good intentions incites terror among the people, and a soldier that seems to look upon her with favor promises safe passage. She relies on her faith and her gut instincts to navigate the ever-increasing peril to survive.
Grimoire weaves a story dripping with mounting tension, anger, sorrow, and heartbreak to illustrate a past that we all must come to terms with, and take the lesson within to heart, in order to build a progressive future for everyone. Relevant for anyone, at any time, lessons from our past are always important guides for our futures. Highly recommend.
