Ten-Day Story Challenge
Venus was written as a godless short story, part of a series of Ten-Day challenges that I continued doing, after having done a couple with Judith Sonnet. I found that I enjoyed the quick pacing, the mental exercise of just getting a full story written & published in ten days and I liked that it gave me a way to produce at least one short novella every month for my godless fans while I worked on my longer material for my mainstream readers.
I had a vague idea about this in my head months before I began writing it, but once I saw the cover for it, it all snapped into place. Venus is a cosmic being that comes to Earth every so often to collect those she deems worthy of a second life elsewhere. Saying too much may give it away more than I’d like, but this book is more sensual than sexy, a bit raw and dirty, and holds more heart and hope than you might expect. I will say that you might see more of Venus soon.
On a more personal note, the idea for Venus, for the main character, came from my daughter, or rather more correctly, from her friend that we call Princess. Princess has been a part of our family forever, and even now a decade or more past high school, she is still very much part of our lives. Princess is super excited that I am writing now, and I dare say, just as proud of me as my kids are. She mentioned to my daughter, Katrina, that she wanted to be a character in one of my books.
I wanted Princess to see herself in the character that I wrote so I built Venus around her traits. Princess is gorgeous, so Venus had to be. Princess is graceful, kind, empathic, and funny, but she is also protective of her friends and fierce when she needs to be. Venus, in kind, displays those traits in her handling of the situations in the story. So, this one is for one of my bonus daughters, who we call Princess, and I truly hope she never changes.
