Victorian Psycho

by Virginia Feito

I honestly have not had this much fun with a book in a long time. I’m a huge fan of Victorian-era books and this one nailed it for me with regards to capturing the language, the feel, the entire era. Beyond that, it was so utterly unhinged in its telling and content, that I was thoroughly riveted by the mystery within it every bit as much as I was amused by the main character and how deeply unraveled she truly was.

The story follows Winifred Notty, new to Ensor House to be a governess to the two spoiled children that live there. The husband, Mr. Pounds, is every bit the perv that you would expect while his long-suffering wife takes his lechery out on poor Winifred, seemingly just to amuse herself.

The children are horrible, entitled and rude and the staff only add to the bizarre atmosphere of the house. But Winifred has a job to do and she will do it well, at least until Christmas comes. For Christmas, she has some gifts of her own to dish out.

I listened to this and doing so was the absolute best choice. The narration is fantastic and made the story and Winifred come to life.

Highly recommended.
