THE HAAR

I waited far too long to check this one out! It’s been on my list forever, and I’ve got a couple more books by this author that just moved up my TBR pile! This was a fantastic read, gorier than I expected, much more chilling than I thought it might be, with characters so vividly written, I felt like I personally knew them.
It’s a horror story but somehow much more than that, an interesting mix of crime and corruption, of grief horror, and oceanic horror, with a bit of body horror thrown in. It follows an elderly lady fighting to keep her home out of the hands of a powerful mogul. As her neighbors sell out around her, from desperation and intimidation, she finds a rather unlikely ally. To say more, may spoil something, so I won’t.
I thoroughly enjoyed this, never really sure of what turn the tale would take next, and always surprised by the next twist as well as properly horrified. This is one that sticks in your head, long after you finish reading.
I listened to this on Audible and it’s excellently narrated. Strongly recommend.
